DancePass
The Metro DC DancePass is a project of the dance presenters in the Greater Washington area and Dance/MetroDC, a local service organization for the dance community. The purpose is to increase audience and visibility for dance, while making performances more affordable for communities that might not otherwise possess the resources to attend. This discount is intended for dance professionals, arts professionals and university/college students majoring in dance.

How it works: Presenters will send special discount offers to Dance/MetroDC. Dance/MetroDC will then send email blasts to Metro DC DancePass holders indicating the terms of the discount. An email blast will be sent each time a Presenter makes a discount available. The DancePass card is only valid for performances highlighted in the email blast as presenters are not required to discount all performances.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Joe’s Movement Emporium, Joy of Motion Dance Center, The Lincoln Theatre, George Mason University Center for the Arts, Publick Playhouse, Strathmore, Washington Performing Arts Society, and Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.

Metro DC Dance Awards
The Metro DC Dance Awards was founded in 2000 by Cheles Rhynes and Mason/Rhynes Productions as a means of recognizing excellence in local dance and building community among DC-area dance artists and organizations. Since its inception, the MDCDA has produced annual awards ceremonies and developed an online calendar of dance performances by local artists. The organization is operated by volunteers who serve on an Advisory Board and a Selection Committee.

For the first awards ceremony in 2001, artists were nominated for awards by a panel of local dance experts and selected by popular vote. The following year, MDCDA designed and implemented a three-step voting process which maintains the involvement of the community, increases the role of artists in the selection of award winners, and gives dance professionals the last vote in the process. Categories continue to be added and refined as decided by the Advisory Board.

Dance/MetroDC , a branch office of Dance/USA , the national service organization for nonprofit professional dance, became the lead organization for MDCDA in 2006. Dance/MetroDC works in conjunction with The Kennedy Center and Mason/Rhynes Productions to produce the awards ceremony, and other events associated with MDCDA. MDCDA continues to evolve as an organization which both serves and celebrates the metropolitan DC/MD/VA dance community.

Dance Is The Answer 2009: April 24 - May 3

Dance/MetroDC is proud to present for the second year a collaborative marketing initiative that celebrates the local dance industry of the Metro DC area. During National Dance Week 2009, April 24 - May 3, 30 area dance companies, dance studios, and dance presenters will offer over 115 different free classes and performances to energize and excite the public about the benefits of dance. We feel dance is the answer for any community for the following reasons:

Dance Is The Answer to reaching weight management goals
Dance Is The Answer to finding an inspiring creative outlet
Dance Is The Answer to enriching your social life

Free classes/performances/workshops/open rehearsals will be available from a wide variety of metro-area organizations. Whether you are new to dance or have been dancing since childhood, Dance Is The Answer is a great way to take part in a physically and emotionally enriching art form.
