With a few of the world's oldest professions, the end of June feels like another marking of the end of the year. Certainly for those of us who live by performance calendars, we tend to see June as the time to close up shop on some of our activities (save for a few summer gigs here and there).

For other parts of our work, its never-ending, isn't it?

Here at Dance/MetroDC we have been tallying Awards nominations and scores, planning on next year's calendar, recovering from the same intense schedules that you have been more than likely experiencing as well.

And to practice what we preach here, I need to ask your help:

GIVE US YOUR DATES- let us know your performance dates in two ways. One is by entering them into the WUFOO submission form on the website. This gets your dates in the system. If you have a roster of dates, even if they include out-of-performances, help us help you spread the word with local press by sending us a full listing of these at info@dancemetrodc.org

GIVE US YOUR THOUGHTS - see our e-newsletter for a link to a survey that will help us give you what you want for next year. We have ideas that have been shared over the year, but this survey will be really helpful, concise and take you less than five minutes. Do it by the 1st of July.

GIVE YOURSELF A TOAST - On July 9th at Hotel Helix, come meet new Advisory Committee members, present Advisory Committee members and your fellow dance-types for a year-end glass-raising....and a toast to at least a marker in the year that says we've all done some good work, congratulations!!!!

Thanks for all your nominations. Due to the volume of nominations, please know that it may take 48 hours for the website to reflect all your nominations. The Awards Nomination portion of the site will state when all 2009 nominations have been listed or give a public update by Thursday, June 18th.

OTHER STUFF:
DANCING MONKEYS?

We need you to tell us your secrets…well, maybe not your secret-secrets, but just some of the info you have that we don’t - which almost feels like you are keeping secrets from us here at Dance/MetroDC! (What would your mother say!)
If you are on our mailing lists, you should be receiving a Survey Monkey from us this month asking your input on specifics for professional training offerings for next year, as well as other services. Fill it out, send it back – and then join us for a big end of season gathering at cocktail time on July 9th ( a change from a previous date!) to hear what we found out from the collective you (save the date; place TBD). If you don’t receive a survey by the 18thth of June, email us and we’ll send the link.

FAST FORWARD FIVE (GIVE OR TAKE A FEW….)

Be on the lookout for applications for a new professional development program that will begin in January of 2010. For now, we are calling it FORWARD FIVE: five artists and/or organizations from the dance community will embark on a full year’s journey, with the goal of improving their art, their production, the translation of their work to image and written word. Through a 12-month series of in-depth workshops and collaborative learning practices, the FIVE will share their new learned skills in community-wide workshops. Stipends will be provided. Applications will be available June 20th, due back by July 20th. The artists/organizations will be chosen through a national panel process. Questions? Contact us.
